Here are a couple of articles about Liberia that are pretty interesting.
The first is about former Liberian dictator, Charles Taylor, and his link to US spy agencies. Here is the Boston Globe article.
The second is about Hilary Clinton's two day Africa trip that included a stop in Liberia for Sirleaf's inauguration yesterday. What I think is really interesting is the point that Delaware Senator Christopher Coons makes about the US needing to see a strong relationship with Liberia as a good foreign policy strategy, especially with the interest that China has taken in the country in recent years. This is something that I've discussed several times with friends who are involved in Liberia. Each time I travel there I see more buildings, roads, and programs that China has paid for. It's not hard to see that China sees the value in developing goodwill in Liberia and other African countries that are rich in natural resources and on unstable ground when it comes to their feelings about democracy. Here's the Reuters article.
